| Scope continues to supply new house-build despite market fall. |
 |
Date: 24th March 2009 |
| |
There can be little doubt that Scope has seen a major slow down in the supply of bathrooms to the new house-build sector, as a result of the credit crunch and economic collapse. "New house-build accounted for 75% of our overall sales revenue last year, so the credit crunch could have caused us major problems" says Derek Miller, Scope Director. "Thankfully we saw the writing on the wall last year and took a radical course of action last summer" adds Derek's business partner, Neil McKinlay.
Derek adds "We had a record business quarter (April-June 08) but saw what was coming. At that point we embarked upon a major re-prioritisation exercise and targetted the burgeoning hotel and commercial sector". Having supplied various Boutique Hotels over the years, Derek and Neil got their sleeves up and set up a dedicated new hotel division, Scope Project. "Almost all of our contract focus has been dedicated to hotels over the past 9 months, which has proved to be very successful for us" adds Neil. "However, since January, we have seen some evidence of a minor recovery to the housing market, with bathrooms being supplied to some of our key housing clients such as CALA Homes, Westpoint Homes, Dickie Homes, and Manor Kingdom, as well as the re-start of some projects developed by smaller, private clients.
Scope also turned its attention to Affordable Housing within the Local Authority sector, and is pleased to announce that it has secured contract business for some 250 Local Authority houses. These are being built by long term clients and include the Linwood Regeneration project for Sanctuary Homes (in conjunction with Ashleigh Construction and James Frew Ltd), and Somerset Road in Ayr for Dawn Homes. "We are delighted to be supplying quality bathrooms in this vital sector" says Derek Miller enthusiatically. "Neil and I are strong exponents of regenerating solid working-class communities and are delighted to supply the developers with quality bathrooms at very keen prices".
